The Bernina 740 has an adaptive thread system. What does this mean? The machine makes automatic tension adjustments to your stitch depending on what type of thread you are using. WAIT!! WHAT??? Did you know that technology even existed? Bernina’s are the only home machine on the market to accomplish this. Do other machines adjust tension automatically-yes, but not in the way that the Bernina 740 does. The machine takes into consideration the stitch that you have chosen, what adjustments you have made AND what thread you are using! There is no guess work or fiddling with top or bottom tension. Of course, in true Bernina fashion, the machine will allow you to override and adjust tension as needed-but trust me, its not needed that much. This machine is exceptional at making all stitching look perfect, no matter what thread or stitch that you have chosen.

With the 7” color touch screen, you can easily identify and choose the stitch you want. By simply touching the picture of the stitch, the machine adjusts the tension automatically and allows your user preferences to change. Do you want a tie off at the beginning of your stitch? Simply tell the machine and it will perform the action. One of the many reasons Bernina set itself apart from the competition is that you can control and adjust almost every function that the machine has, making it easy for the user to adjust the machine to your preferences. The stronger the motor and the bigger the feed dogs, the easier it is for the machine to pull the fabric through with ease. The Bernina 740 has a 9 mm stitch width-this means a couple of things: 1. …This machine will sew anything! The Bernina Dual feed is a feed dog that is applied to the top of the fabric when sewing. Dual, meaning 2, and feed, meaning the feed dog. This is a superior feeding system compared to the traditional walking foot because the dual feed works in tandem with the feed dogs to transport the fabric. With feeding from the top and the bottom, you can sew super, light weight fabrics as well as heavy, thick fabrics with ease. Quilters love this feature while piecing their quilt pieces together because when you get to the end of the seam, it is even. You won’t have the shifting of fabric issue since the dual feeding transports the fabric evenly.
